The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Cross River State Branch, has nominated Governor Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu for the 2026 Platinum Meritorious Service Award. This is the association’s highest honour, recognising outstanding leadership and healthcare development.

The award, approved at the Association’s Ordinary General Meeting, honours the Governor’s administration for implementing significant reforms that strengthened the healthcare system and enhanced medical professionals’ welfare.

A nomination letter signed by NMA State Chairman Dr Ezoke Epoke highlights the administration’s dedication to advancing healthcare across Cross River. Notable achievements include recruiting medical doctors into the Civil Service, implementing the revised Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), extending service years for health workers in the state, establishing the State Hospital Management Board, and upgrading primary healthcare centres and general hospitals.

The NMA stated that these efforts have boosted confidence among healthcare workers and increased access to quality healthcare for residents.

Governor Otu will receive the Platinum Meritorious Service Award at the Nigerian Medical Association Cross River State Branch Annual General Meeting, Scientific Conference, and Award Night on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at Hogis Royale Banquet Hall, Calabar.
